Kim Holland Oklahoma insurance commissioner has been in their current job is less than six months, but again in the insurance sector, it is not.
A former insurance agent with a specialty on social benefits, the Netherlands has more than 20 years experience with multi-line independent agency that manages over recent years. Netherlands, whose grandmother was an agent for New England Life Insurance Company, is only the second woman, as Oklahoma’s top insurance regulatory authority.
In an interview with the newspaper insurance, the Netherlands spoke about his commitment to the integrity of his office and issues that are currently in the environment of insurance in their state. Here are excerpts from the conversation.
Journal of insurance: The insurance commissioner resigned in Oklahoma, amid accusations of illegal and immoral behaviour. What measures will you take back confidence in the insurance benefit?
Kim Holland: It is actually a multi-pillar of the effort. Firstly, in recent months, and it will continue to monitor for the foreseeable future is more and more to groups and talk. I conferences two to three times a week for the two industry groups, and our private sector, civic groups and so forth, does let you know how I feel about the role of the Insurance Commissioner from the viewpoint of knowledge, which for him is a privilege to serve in that capacity and that the office is located in the property of citizens and taxpayers of Oklahoma State, and I take my role as guardian of this responsibility very seriously. …
This is probably our greatest effort and continue in the coming months - to ensure that people get the impression that … the office is open to them, and we want to hear if they have concerns and problems.
The good news is that the staff has done a remarkable job here. During the time that I was for this work, I spoke with many people from industry, to determine their perception of what was Affairs division … and really without exception, the positive reactions, even despite the difficult circumstances in which working man business with our business partners has always been treated and processed. …
I am here raise the bar by some higher standards regarding the accountability of our time, our responsibility dollars, accountability of our practice. All these things have been made publicly available, so that our public is still understand that we are serious about our ethical obligations and that we are the back cover that strategies and procedures internally, the responsibility of each of us.
TS: If the problems of ethics or morality, with those of the former Commissioner in jeopardy one of the decisions were taken during his tenure?
KH: We are still reports on the decisions that were made … where he uses discretion, discretion that allows this function. We are reassessing those decisions.
Would there be discretionary decisions regarding the practices allowed by insurance companies, we are again on research. We invite companies and we tell them there is a new day, and our standards are our standards and that is what our hope is - that our businesses take my standards.
We do not have all the dollars missing or not something like it. But I am not inclined to grant any exceptions or accepted practice that our policyholders at risk “and network security solutions.
TS: What is your background of a professional insurance helps you in your role as a regulator?
KH: It is interesting to spend your entire career in a business and you think you know everything. They think, as you know very. And then it moves closer to another point of view and recognize there is a whole new world outside because you were not even aware.
In my career as an agent I had very little interaction with the department, and even if I have a lot of research when I was working for in the work until I was not really fully appreciated the role of the width of office and the width of the branch. Likewise, I really appreciated the scope of national issues affecting the insurance industry. …
A part of my conversation on the insurance sector is [men] know, what kind of contribution of our industry in our country by a tax point of view of revenue and a vision, as well as many people we have licenses, like many insurance companies are active. Coming here was a big surprise for me that the magnitude of this task, the extent of the effects of the division, industry and consumers.
